The short answer

Both tools changed a lot in 2026. Otomatic became an “AI agent team” app (Windows, Mac and web) that keeps a WordPress Autopilot: from €39/month, but you plug in your own AI accounts (Codex, Claude Code, OpenRouter), billed separately. Koala AI is an all-in-one SEO platform: KoalaWriter v2, a Brand DNA agent on your Search Console, and Content Calendar Autopilot from Boost ($99/month); the entry plan costs $25/month. To automate several WordPress sites while choosing your models: Otomatic. For a turnkey tool with Amazon data and an SEO agent included: Koala AI.

Otomatic or Koala AI? In our earlier versions the contrast was simple: a WordPress autopilot sold as an annual license versus a low-cost assisted writer. That frame no longer holds. Otomatic repositioned itself around teams of AI agents that can build sites, apps and videos, while keeping an Autopilot module for WordPress. Koala, for its part, added its own scheduled automatic publishing. Here is the comparison rebuilt from their current offers.

How we wrote this: facts and prices come from the official pages, checked on October 24, 2026. We did not test the new Otomatic or Koala’s v2 with a paid account for this update.

Two tools that changed their model

Otomatic now presents itself as software to “build your team of AI agents”, available on Windows and Mac with a web workspace. Specialized agents research, create and automate: websites, mobile apps, desktop software, video edits. You connect your own engines (Codex with a ChatGPT account, Claude Code with a Claude subscription, or OpenRouter) and tools through MCP: WordPress, Search Console, DataForSEO, Google Analytics, Shopify, Notion and some forty other connectors. For SEO, the module that matters is the WordPress Autopilot, driven by a plugin.

Koala AI stays focused on SEO content. KoalaWriter v2 writes long articles from an analysis of the ranking pages, Brand DNA stores knowledge about your business and provides an SEO agent connected to Search Console and Analytics, and the platform publishes to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Ghost or a webhook. Its long-standing strength for affiliates: roundups built from live Amazon data.

Autopilot versus Autopilot

Both tools now offer scheduled automatic publishing, with different logic.

Otomatic’s WordPress Autopilot starts from sources you choose: a keyword list, URLs to analyze, RSS feeds, XML sitemaps, Google News or YouTube videos. You set tone and options, the AI prepares content, you set dates and frequency, and the articles go to WordPress. It is included in the Standard plan.

Koala’s Content Calendar Autopilot starts from your data: the Brand DNA agent analyzes your Search Console, Analytics and keyword and backlink data, suggests a batch of articles, then schedules them, has KoalaWriter write them and publishes them on the planned date. It is reserved for Boost and higher plans, with a draft publishing option.

Put simply: Otomatic is more flexible on sources (RSS monitoring, news, videos), Koala is stronger on strategy (choosing topics from your real rankings).

Pricing (October 2026)

Otomatic pricing page: Free €0, Standard €39, Pro €79, Max €199 per month
Otomatic’s pricing (French page, screenshot taken October 24, 2026).

Otomatic (otomatic.ai/tarifs, in euros): Free €0 (1 agent, manual control), Standard €39/month (10 agents, WordPress and AI Autopilot, Codex and OpenRouter), Pro €79/month (50 agents, scheduled tasks, multi-agent workflows), Max €199/month (unlimited agents, client workspaces, team permissions). Important: AI usage is not included; it depends on your own Codex or OpenRouter accounts. The former $390 annual license for 5 sites that we used to quote no longer appears.

Koala AI (koala.sh/pricing): Starter $25/month (45,000 words), Professional $49/month (100,000 words, editor with SEO score, Search Console), Boost $99/month (250,000 words, full Brand DNA, Content Calendar Autopilot), or $20, $39 and $79/month billed annually. The cost of AI models is included in the word allowance. The old $9 plan is gone.

For scheduled WordPress publishing, the fair comparison is therefore Otomatic Standard (€39 plus your AI costs) versus Koala Boost ($99 all-in). For assisted writing without automation, Koala Starter at $25 remains the simplest option.

Quality and editorial control

An autopilot is only as good as what it publishes. With Otomatic, quality largely depends on the model you plug in and on how you configure sources and tone; more flexible, but more tuning. With Koala, quality rests on KoalaWriter v2, Extended Research (Professional and up) and your Brand DNA; more guided, but you stay within Koala’s choices.

Either way, our advice is the same: start in draft mode, review the first batches, and only switch to direct publishing on topics where a mistake is cheap. Google penalizes mass-produced content without added value, whatever the tool.

Which tool for which profile?

Pick Otomatic if:

  • you manage several WordPress sites and want to feed them from feeds, news or videos;
  • you already pay for ChatGPT or Claude and want to choose each agent’s model;
  • you also want to automate other projects beyond SEO (sites, apps, video).

  • you run an affiliate site and want up-to-date Amazon roundups;

How to test Otomatic and Koala AI before committing

Both tools have a free way in: Otomatic’s Free plan (one agent, manual control) and Koala’s 5,000 free words. Neither free tier unlocks the full Autopilot, so plan a short paid month only once you know which approach suits you.

  1. Write down your sources: if your content ideas come from RSS feeds, news or videos, Otomatic’s Autopilot fits naturally; if they come from your Search Console, Koala’s agent does.
  2. Estimate your AI cost with Otomatic: run a few articles with your own Codex or OpenRouter account and check what they actually cost on your provider’s dashboard.
  3. Test Koala’s writing on the same topics: set up Brand DNA and generate one or two articles with the free allowance to judge quality.
  4. Compare total monthly cost at your real volume: Otomatic Standard plus AI usage versus Koala Boost ($99) if you need Autopilot, or Koala Starter ($25) if you only need writing.

Keep publishing in draft mode during the test. Automation is worth it only once you trust what it publishes.

Verdict

Our verdict changes, because both products changed. We can no longer present Otomatic as an unbeatable 5-site license: it is now a monthly subscription agent app whose total cost also depends on your AI usage. And Koala is no longer the $9/month writer: it starts at $25 and its Autopilot requires the Boost plan.

For a multi-site publisher comfortable with configuration and already paying for ChatGPT or Claude, Otomatic offers more freedom for less, at least on paper. For a publisher who wants a turnkey tool, with SEO data and models included, Koala is simpler and more predictable.
